Danielle Fernandes Dominique Schuelein-Steel (born 1947), better known by the name Danielle Steel, is one of the bestselling authors of all time, with over 800 million copies sold. Her books have been translated into 43 languages, with 22 adapted for television, including Jewels, recipient of two Golden Globe nominations. Steel studied at Parsons School of Design and New York University, completing her first manuscript when she was 19. Steel's numerous bestsellers include novels, non-fiction, children's books, and poetry. In 2002, Steel was decorated by the French government as an Officier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, for her contributions to world culture. Steel has also received a number of awards honoring her distinguished service in mental health. She divides her time between Paris and San Francisco.
