Lawrence Block

Lawrence Block, born in 1938 in Buffalo, New York, has been writing crime, mystery, and suspense fiction for more than fifty years. Block attended Antioch College and left before graduating. Block's first works, written under a pseudonym, were paperback erotica. Once he began publishing under his own name, Block also took on a number of pen names including Jill Emerson, John Warren Wells, Lesley Evans, and Anne Campbell Clarke. He has published non-fiction, more than 100 novels, and hundreds of short stories. Much awarded for his work, he has been named Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America, and received the Gumshoe Lifetime Achievement Award and the Diamond Dagger for Life Achievement, to name just a few. Block has also won four Edgar and four Shamus awards, and the Nero Wolfe and Philip Marlowe awards. He lives in New York City.
