Belongs in every household

There are other versions of this document available, some include the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation. I already had a copy of the Constitution and wanted to have a copy of the Declaration of Independence. This is the document, with brief biographies of the signers. There is no analysis of the document, just the document. I can consult other sources for the analysis, I prefer to have the document to draw my own conclusions without them being colored by someone else's interpretation. Every household in the United States should have a copy f this document available; particularly if there are children.

History is written

Another great book to purchase for those in the History field, Political Science(Government), or just a nut like me that is proud of America and wants to know more. This book and the book on the constitution are great little books to carry and to learn from, great for school aged children and those that have graduated to higher learning. Share knowledge and refresh those facts that one may have forgotten about over the years. A+++++

When In The Course Of Human Events.....

As Sam Fink tells the reader in his forward: "For as long as I can remember, every Fourth of July The New York Times reproduced a copy of the original Declaration of Independence on the back page. Each time it appeared, I would look it over with admiration and go out to celebrate..." "A couple of years ago, I thought I would actually try to read it... Reading it over several times, enjoying it more and more, I became very impressed with Thomas Jefferson's logic. I liked his argument of how unfairly the colonies were being treated, how they couldn't stand it anymore, and they needed to break away from Great Britain. So, I planned a project..." And that project became this book, The Declaration of Independence: The Words That Made America. Mr Fink has taken the document apart, dividing it into short, more easily understood phrases. Each two-page spread features one beautifully, hand lettered phrase, accompanied by a clever and engaging illustration of its meaning. It's the captivating artwork, rich in historical detail and playful wit, that really brings the significance of these great words to life. Mr Fink also includes the complete text of the Declaration, informative chronology "that transformed loyal subjects of Great Britain into rebellious, patriotic Americans," a comprehensive glossary, selected bibliography and resources, and index at the end, to further explain and enlighten. Perfect for youngsters 10 and older, The Declaration Of Independence is a marvelously evocative experience that both inspires and captures the imagination, and is most definitely one of the best new books of 2002. "The words that made America can now be shared with people of all ages; and they can help us understand what the Founding Fathers created for all of us who have followed. Freedom...oh, sweet freedom."

Can you spend three dollars any wiser?

If you are the least bit interested in politics and why it happens the way it does, begin here, of course! Great price, informative historical background of the document included.

A Republic? If You Can Keep It.

The founders were men of the Enlightenment and the ideas they held led to the greatest advance in the history of civilization: the creation of the United States of America. The vehicles for their earth-changing achievement were two primary documents: The Declaration of Independence of 1776 and the Constitution of 1787. Every citizen should have a copy of these two documents. As an act of proud affirmation, they should make the effort to understand the ideas they contain. For within these two documents lay the very foundations of freedom in a civil society: the principle of individual rights, representative government, and limited powers. If there is a child in your life that is important to you-give them this book, and take the time to sit with them and read it. I guarantee you both will be richer for the experience.
