Book Overview

Life was good for Liz and Jack Sutherland. In 18 years of marriage, they had built a family, a successful law practice, and a warm, happy home near San Francisco, in a house on Hope Street. Then, in an instant, it all fell apart. It began like any other Christmas morning, with joy and children's laughter. But for Jack Sutherland, a five-minute errand ends in tragedy. And suddenly, Liz is alone, facing painful questions in the wake of an unbearable...

The house on Hope Street

Danielle Steel books don’t disappoint. One is always better than the others

Just a beautiful story!

Haven't read the hardcover version, but it's the same book. This is a beautiful story that deals with loss and love and hope. The first couple of chapters are difficult because they deal with a family tragedy and you've just come to like one of the major characters who is killed...but then the story really takes off. A true triumph of human spirit. Danielle Steel has such a way of weaving a love story into a real life situation.

An amazing story!

I must say, I was extremely touched by this book. The story was very well written and felt extremely 'real', the descriptions were simple, yet VERY believable. I like the way the author takes you straight to 'The House on Hope Street' and makes you share Liz's pain throughout. I would say it was a 'typical' Danielle Steel story, and by typical I mean that her stories are inspiring and feel totally real! Her stories could happen to anyone in real life...she writes fiction but based on real life experiences and I like that very much!I would definately recommend all her books and especially this one!

Another great read from Danielle Steel

Like many of the other reviewers, I have and love all of Danielle Steel's earlier books. In the last few years, starting with The Klone and I, I became turned off by Ms.Steel's writing. In fact, I waited to read House on Hope Street and The Wedding until my name came up on the list at the library. Now, these two books will definitely be added to my collection. The House on Hope Street is a fast, easy, exciting read. I was in tears by page 61 and had to stop and put myself together. You actually feel the pain Liz has to deal with. You get wrapped up in her life, and by the end of the book, you can feel every emotion, good and bad. This book is a must for all of the early Danielle Steel book lovers.

It can happen to any of us at any time

This was one of Danielle's best reads which includes love, loss, anger and fear! I could hardly wait to turn the pages as I flew home from Kansas last month. I told my husband he had to shut up...and that's something I NEVER do...I love talking to him! But I couldn't help myself! What I realized when I reflected back on this book the day after reading was that it could happen to any one of us at any time, on any given day...too scary to think about...but reality. No warning, no preparation, no clue. So considering my being taken so aback by this story, I thank Danielle for another great book about a strong woman who relects who we can all be...if we need to...but certainly don't want to!

The House on Hope Street

I found the book very touching and close to the heart. You felt you were right there in the story. I felt the characters were well written. You understood how deeply Liz & Jack loved each other. When Jack was killed, you felt the pain that Liz felt. Once again Liz feels the pain when her son is in the hospital fighting for his life. She meets Dr. Bill Webster who saves her son and a relationship between Liz and Bill starts to blossom. I found the book very moving, fast reading and totally enjoyed it.
